Resumption of Operations
The Lundquist Institute Task Force continued its gradual reopening of operations. The Task Force has focused on reopening plans for each area of our operation – research labs, clinical research and administrative support – as each of these functional areas have distinctly different operating needs and risks.
Reopening plans for research labs were piloted in Infectious Diseases. which reported that the implementation of the reopening of the 2nd floor of the MRL Building has been progressing well. We are now focusing on implementing the reopening of research labs in the Martin Building, which we expect to be accomplished next week, followed by attention to the remaining lab-based research on campus.
In the area of clinical research, there were four (4) virtual town hall meetings held this past week with appropriate stakeholders to review the draft SOP’s for the reopening of clinical research activities. The meetings were very well attended and provided good feedback for further refinement of the clinical research SOP’s. In the near future, these SOPs will form the basis of resumption of many types of clinical studies.
Administrative support staff who have been effectively performing their jobs remotely will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, coming onto campus only when it is essential to the performance of their jobs. We are working on the development of SOP’s for administrative staff that cannot effectively function remotely to provide guidance for office and cubicle design and other work station layout features that are critical to achieving social distancing. The entire focus of our reopening plans has been to keep the risk of transmission of the virus within our community to a minimum. We are confident this is the right approach for the safety of staff as well as the successful reopening of necessary research
